Of course we can’t forget the place where you’ll be spending the most time this holiday season- the kitchen! The kitchen can easily be neglected during the holidays because it’s tricky to decorate. To make your cooking space more festive, try lining the top of your cabinets with a festive garland!
If you don’t have enough space on your cabinets, or if the garland prevents you from being able to open them, you can always hang it under your counter or over a doorway so that the holiday theme continues throughout your home. Considerations You Should Make While Decorating Your Home for Christmas
I love planning and prepping! So of course, I’ll plan everything before I start decorating for the holidays. By planning out the decorations you’ll hang in your home for Christmas, you can create a cohesive theme throughout your living space for guests to wander through, so here are some important tips to consider before you start decorating:
- Decorate a variety of surfaces in your home for Christmas- Everyone looks forward to decorating the Christmas tree, so why stop there? Embellish your entryway, staircase, and entertainment console with festive decorations so that the winter wonderland theme in your home will enamor your guests as they travel from room to room.
- Keep delicate baubles away from your children and pets- We’re all excited to be home for Christmas! But sometimes we get a little too excited so you should keep fragile and beloved decor items out of reach. Make sure that your cat has a perch of their own so that they do not jump on surfaces and knock over ornaments. You can hang delicate ornaments towards the top of the tree so that they cannot be reached by small hands.
- Have fun decorating your home for Christmas- The holidays are a time to spend with your family and relax. It is easy to stress over making your home appear perfect for your guests but you should enjoy the process of decorating. Create a space that brings you joy. Your decorations can be a tool to express a feeling of warmth and comfort during the holiday season.
2021 Christmas Decor Trends
If you like to be on top of design trends, or perhaps you are just looking for something new to decorate your home for Christmas, here are a few festive trends that are popular this holiday season.
Appreciate the grandeur of ornaments, baubles, and oversized wreaths with the trend of maximalism. For a maximalist, there is no such thing as too much. Celebrate the holidays with bright color, luxurious textures, rich reds, and oversized centerpieces throughout your home.
I wholeheartedly encourage you to shop sustainably this season so when you are shopping for Christmas decor, opt for items that will have the least impact on the environment. In addition to compostable decor such as a real pine Christmas tree, seek handcrafted, wood, and recycled decorations to adorn your home for Christmas.
A quiet space can bring comfort and joy to those who need peace and rest so you should use neutral colors, natural textures, and a bit of rustic wood accents will complete your Scandinavian decor for a peaceful Christmas. Simplicity in your bright, airy space can be just as joyous as a richly decorated home.
Explore Scandinavian Christmas Decor and Cooking
Check out these books to inspire your Scandinavian Christmas decor. It is my family’s tradition to bake kringla every year, a kind of Norwegian cookie, so I would love to inspire you to bake these delicious Scandinavian trees as well! You can discover new ideas to treat your guests in the Scandikitchen Christmas cookbook!
Celestial Decor in Your Home for Christmas
Welcome guests with a dining room table adorned with heavenly delights. Silver and white ornaments throughout your home can create a very elegant theme so you should use twinkling lights and shiny snow flock on your tree can create a sophisticated, muted color palette. One perk of this style is that the limited color palette makes it easy for you to transition into New Year’s decor after Christmas Day.
